Kapaa's public pickleball revolves around the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex and Wailua Homesteads Park. Kapaa's Public Courts and Equipment Needs

• Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex, 4636 Olohena Road, near the bypass-road roundabout. The complex has four outdoor courts with permanent lines, lights, and no permanent nets. • Wailua Homesteads Park Tennis Courts, 454A Kamalu Road. Four tennis courts are lined for pickleball, but players must provide nets. • Princeville Makai Golf Club, 4080 Lei O Papa Road, Princeville. About 40 minutes north of Kapaa, this paid complex has four permanent-net courts and two temporary-net courts. It offers beginner drop-in play Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to noon and general open play daily at 3:00 PM. Court rentals are $25 per hour and drop-in play is $15 per person. Free Sunday Lessons in Wailua Homesteads

Beginners should schedule a free lesson at Wailua Homesteads Park. Pickleball Association Kauai offers one-hour private or group lessons by appointment on Sunday afternoons at 2:00 PM. Paddles and balls are provided for as many as four players. Call Diane Treskon at 808-482-1101 before attending.

Arriving With or Without a Partner

Solo players at 3.5 or above should contact the Bryan J. Baptiste organizer and join one of the four weekly sessions. Less-experienced visitors should schedule the Sunday beginner lesson or arrive for the equipment-supported period at Wailua Homesteads after confirming with Diane. These routes provide nets and people, while general public access provides only lined courts.

If you already have partners and a portable net, either Kapaa location works for a self-organized game. Visitors willing to pay for a more predictable setup can reserve Princeville Makai, where permanent nets, scheduled beginner play, and daily afternoon open play remove much of the uncertainty.
